Evolving Humans

Posted on Updated on

From Living Fast and Dying Young, to Living Slow and Dying Old

Will our grandchildren be an entirely different type of human being? Evolutionary anthropologist Cadell Last has a theory that humans are undergoing an evolutionary transition that is being driven by our culture. Rather than biological evolution that caused physical changes in our evolving species over millions of years, Last believes that cultural evolution is changing the human species in a matter of decades.

What we focus our attention on, what we do changes our DNA. We are becoming a new type of human being. Cadell Last explains that, “Humans are naturally interested in music, movies, mathematics, and science and all of these things. So we’re just entering a world where we can own our own cultural reproduction, and we can engage in this for an entire lifetime.” Read the rest of this entry »

How Stress Makes You Gain Weight

Stress—a fact of modern day living, and the cause of so many diseases. Stress has been linked to heart disease, cancer, allergies, autoimmune disease, thyroid dysfunction, mood disorders and obesity.

While stress affects many parts of the body, the adrenals are responsible for creating the stress response.

What are the Adrenals?

The adrenals are small glands that lie on top (ad) of the kidneys (renals). These amazing glands have multiple functions. While the adrenals are endocrine glands producing hormones in response to pituitary stimulus that control carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism, the adrenals also respond to neurological stimuli to initiate the fight or flight response, as well as electrolytes circulating in the blood to control blood pressure, and produce cytokines that influence immune function.

That’s a lot of responsibility for one pair of glands. Read the rest of this entry »

Working with the Mind-Body Connection

Posted on Updated on

We have heard much of the Mind-Body connection. How thought creates reality. I believe the connection is deeper. That the body is the perfect vehicle for the soul in this earthly dimension. It is through the dense, sensual physical body that the soul learns profound lessons and experiences precious gifts.

Within the temple of the body exists all the knowledge needed for the soul to complete its journey here on earth. The vital information lies deep within each cell, in the genetic blueprint—the DNA. Encoded for optimal existence, our DNA resonates with the earth, with the plants and the animals. And our DNA resonates with others through the experience of Emotion. Emotion is the path to the soul, the body is the garden in which the path takes form. Read the rest of this entry »

Our Parasitic Health Care System

Posted on Updated on

Since being back in the throng of conventional medicine it has become very clear to me that our health care system is parasitic. It feeds off dis-ease.

Insurance pays poorly or not at all for health education to empower patients. It pays by diagnoses—the more dis-eased, the more it pays. Yet you cannot treat everything at once.

No, insurances do not pay well if you try to take care of all the patient’s concerns in one visit. It pays to have the patient come back and back again for each complaint.

And there is no time to educate, let alone empower the patient. Read the rest of this entry »

Amino Acids to Balance the Brain

Posted on Updated on

Can you balance your brain with nutrition? Well, science says yes. Our brains need specific nutrients for proper functioning. And malfunctioning brains need more.

At the center of the brain lies the maestro—the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus orchestrates the symphony of hormones produced by the neuro-immune-endocrine system. These “hormones” control all of your body’s functioning—digestion, detoxification, growth, repair, sleep, sex drive, reproduction, stress response, metabolism, body composition, immunity, healing, cognition, learning and memory.

The hypothalamus also controls the amino acids that the rest of the brain uses to function. And most people do not get the proper nutrition to supply the brain with what it needs for optimal function. That’s one of the reasons antidepressants, anti-anxiety and memory enhancing drugs are so commonly prescribed today. Read the rest of this entry »

Many depressed, anxious, learning disabled and stressed patients are best served by healing their hypothalamus.

Healing Transformations

Posted on Updated on

2017 started off with a bang. So much change in so short a time. When change happens this quickly it can cause physical symptoms.

You might notice changes in sleep patterns. You may experience anxiety or depression, foggy thinking, low energy. You may experience the stress of some crazy events in the world.

What was once true seems to shifting. Everything changes. Are you ready for a big transformation?

In 1997 I decided to leave conventional medicine and go out on my own to start my own integrative health care practice. It’s been a journey and now I have come full circle. Ironic, since I named my practice—Full Circle Family Health. I wanted to get back to the root of health care, to be able to practice the art of healing, to use my scientific training to become a medical detective, to uncover the root of dis-ease, to find alternative therapies when allopathic medicine could not heal or was not the patient’s choice. And I did. I created a holistic health care practice that focused on individualized therapy for each patient by merging the science of medicine with the art of healing. Read the rest of this entry »
